Sea Sunday is the day which many Christian Churches set aside to remember and pray for seafarers and their families and give thanks for their lives and work. It is officially held on the second Sunday in July, though there is significant flexibility to accommodate other local celebrations.
It some countries, especially the United Kingdom, this day provides a vital link between port ministries and supporting congregations. During Sea Sunday, UK-based charities such as the Apostleship of the Sea, The Mission to Seafarers and the Sailors' Society as well as non-denominational groups, hold parades, and run awareness campaigns about life at sea.
Via its Port-Congregation Partnership project, NAMMA noted that more awareness of Sea Sunday and resources for that day could be of specific help in building up relationships between ports and local churches.
