NAMMA to Offer SAPR First Responders Training During CMA Shipping 2017
The North American Maritime Ministry Association is pleased to share that we will hold a SAPR program for first responders workshop on March 20 from 1:15p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the ELM room of the Hilton Stamford Hotel in parallel to the CMA Shipping conference. We are doing this in conjunction with a number of partners including the Seamen's Church Institute of New York & New Jersey, Seafarers International House, and the International Seafarers' Welfare and Assistance Network (all three also CMA Shipping exhibitors). Our main audience is seafarers' welfare providers and those who work directly with crews, but since we have an extra few seats and with the encouragement of the conference organizers, we welcome others at CMA Shipping 2017 who might wish to join us for the afternoon. Please contact Jason Zuidema, Executive Director of NAMMA at email@example.com.
Overview: This training is intended to build the capacity of ship welfare visitors and those in the maritime industry to assess and respond effectively to disclosures of sexual assault and sexual abuse. Led by an experienced trainer, Ms. Helen Archontou, this workshop will feature lectures that help understand the wider issues, but also structured small group discussions that help participants practice skills. The seminar will conclude with a presentation of new SAPR materials that will be distributed among seafarers’ welfare providers to encourage best practice.
