The Association for the Seamen's Ministry

The Association for the Seamen’s Mission is an organization run by the Protestant Churches (United Church of Christ in Japan and The United Methodist Church-USA) in Kanagawa District.
The association have committee members who are mostly Japanese pastors and lay member.

The Association for the Seamen’s Mission:

  • minister to foreign seafarers;
  • visit crew on board the ship and find out the individual situation and needs to help if possible;
  • counsel and take care for their physical and emotional needs;
  • conduct funerals, as necessary; etc.

The ASM works jointly with the Apostolatus Maris (AOS-Stella Maris) and The Seafarers Mission (MtoS) that operate and manage a mission center known by the visiting seafarers in Yokohama as The Mission to Seafarers Club.
