Welcome to the
NAMMA website
NAMMA is an ecumenical, Christian association of individuals and organizations involved in maritime ministry throughout North America, including the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Founded in 1990, its mission is to provide a framework to support and assist port chaplains and others in this field in their ability to minister to the spiritual, moral, human rights and physical concerns of mariners and all others in the maritime community.
NAMMA helps equip port chaplains with the resources needed to carry on their ministry. It acts as a consultant and coordinator for services and training, as well as providing standards for these services.
NAMMA includes many ministries from a wide variety of denominations, as well as the four major maritime ministries of North America: Apostleship of the Sea (Roman Catholic), The Mission to Seafarers (Episcopal and Anglican), Lutheran Association for Maritime Ministry, and Port Ministries International (Southern Baptist). NAMMA's members include 41 major maritime ministry agencies and approximately 150 member chaplains.
SeaRiver Maritime Inc. is the winner of NAMMA's 2007 Annual Seafarer Salute Award for caring for its crews
Lloyd’s List is the winner of the NAMMA's 2007 Joe Gerson Humanitarian Award for continuing its trend of superb journalism when dealing with seafarers issues.
In October, 2007, NAMMA became one of the original signing organizations for NAMEPA (North American Marine Environment Protection Association).
